Kano Pillars basketball club were attacked by angry fans at the end of week 2 league match in the ongoing Nigeria Basket ball league, involving KPBC versus Gombe Bulls in Gombe.
The angry Gombe fans hurl stones at the coaster bus of the visiting Kano Pillars, the windscreen and side mirror of the official vehicle conveying the players were shattered.
Kano Pillars players Ibrahim Adamu, Dike Azouma, and Nda Habu suffered bodily injuries on several parts of their body, from the attacks.
The Organizing secretary of the team, Bashir Bello who suffered a minor injury on his chest, said all those injured were treated by the team of medics attached to the club.
The spokes person, Kano State Sports Commission, Abbati S. Abba, who confirmed the incident said, the Kano state government owned club has formally lodged a complaint with the basketball league organizers against Gombe Bulls.
Abbati who dismissed the actions of the Gombe fans, said he is amaze that, despite pillars losing 69-68,to the home side, the home fans proceed to assault players and officials of KPBC.
Former Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote’s Beijing Enterprises team-mates paid their respects on Tuesday to the Ivory Coast star, who died in hospital last week after collapsing during a training session . The 30-year-old’s family flew to China after Tiote’s tragic death and attended the ceremony. They will accompany his body back to the Ivory Coast on Wednesday, where a private funeral service will be held for family, including 50 brothers and sisters, and friends. Tiote’s loved ones and friends are still waiting for official confirmation of the cause of the former Anderlecht, FC Twente and Newcastle midfielder’s death. Fans also paid their respects outside the memorial venue, with an impressive R.I.P banner showing Tiote in a range of kits from his colourful career.
