The Sokoto State Pilgrims Welfare Agency (PWA) has announced a flat rate of N1.52 million as the fare for the 2017 Hajj. The Director-General of the agency, Alhaji Ibrahim Umar, made this known on Thursday at a meeting with the 23 Local Government Hajj Registration Officers and their assistants. He said that the fare was approved by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON). Umar said that each intending pilgrim would be entitled to 800 dollars Basic Travelling Allowance (BTA). The director-general said, ”No provision was made for minimum and maximum Hajj fares as was the practice in the past. ”Prospective pilgrims from the state have already made initial deposits of N1million. ”They have been given two weeks deadline to pay the balance of the fare as stipulated by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).” Umar said that intending pilgrims were also required to pay N38, 000 for those performing Hadaya through Ja’iz Bank. Meet the latest Nigerian man arrested for drug trafficking in India. He has been identified as Chinedu Peter Okafor. The 27 year old was arrested in Gujarat India, with narcotics worth over $525,000. The 27 year-old Nigerian identified as Chinedu Peter Okafor was travelling from Delhi to Goa when he was nabbed on the Madgoan Rajdhani Express train. He had frequented the route and triggered suspicions before his arrest by operatives of the Narcotics Control Bureau. Both The Times of India and Deshgujarat.com said upon searching the Nigerian an assortment of drugs was found on him, hidden in his bag and shoes. Found was 843gm of methamphetamine, 255gm of cocaine and 65 gm of ecstasy tablets. The street value of the drugs, was estimated at 3.5Crores, about $525,000. The six arrested suspected robbers Mudiaga Affe, Calabar The Cross River State Police Command on Wednesday said it killed one suspected criminal and arrested six others shortly after the hoodlums robbed a micro-finance bank in Calabar.
